Jeanna Parsons, one of Cayman’s leading fitness experts, recently published an article on www.caymanactive.com about reaching your 2009 fitness goals. Here are some of her suggestions for overcoming your personal challenges:

“I would like to invite you to take an inventory of your current lifestyle routine. Life is about balance. For most people there is always one area in their life that is not in proper balance with the other areas of their life. You either find you have too much in one area or not enough of another.

Search yourself to find out where your imbalances lie and begin there. In my experience, I have found most people work more than anything else and exercise and eating right is almost always what falls to the way side. Integrating proper diet and exercise into your daily routine can be done with a little planning and some expertise.

If making exercise and eating right is one of your lifestyle improvements you want to make, enlisting the help of a nutritional counselor or trainer would be advisable especially if you find you have not gotten the results you desire on your own.

Having the proper support system is vital in achieving your lifestyle goals. Always begin by making small changes. Submerging yourself into a vigorous exercise program or restricted diet will only set you up for disappointment. Permanent lifestyle improvements are the ones that and are made gradually and over time. Slow and steady wins the race!

Pay attention to your body. The body has a way of telling us exactly what it needs, it is just for us to listen to it. It is important to remember that when setting out to achieve your lifestyle goals, 10% is perspiration and 90% determination. Therefore maintaining a positive outlook is so important.  I would like to leave you with some of the positive thoughts I think about often. I wish you all the best in 2009!

1).  Everything takes time.
2).  Bad habits were not formed in one day and reversing them will not take a day to break.
3).  You are only human.
4).  Everything is perfect in its’ present state.
5).  Don’t worry because worrying never helped anything.
6).  The only opinion that matters is your own.
7).  Be yourself.
8).  If you don’t succeed, try, try again.
9).  Be patient with yourself.
10). You can do it!
