Art@Governors

Art@Governors

On January 30th, 2010 over 100 artists, crafts people and designers will be demonstrating their talents at this year’s Art@Governors event, the islands’ premier art event held each year on the lawn of Government House. Co-hosts His Excellency Governor Mr. Duncan Taylor and Mrs. Taylor, and the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands invite everyone to attend this year’s event.

In the years since its inauguration in 2000, Art@Governors has become the only festival of its kind in Cayman to display such a diverse number of visual art forms from paintings, ceramics, sculpture and leatherwork to thatch work, body paintings, jewellery, quilts, photography and handicrafts. Visitors have a chance to meet seasoned and emerging artists one on one, to query their art processes and to participate in creating a work of art themselves. The event also gives visitors the opportunity to view the differences and similarities between the traditional heritage craft and the contemporary arts of the islands, and the ways in which one has inspired the other.

Join His Excellency Governor Duncan Taylor and his family and the National Gallery for an afternoon of artistic stimulation of all kinds on Saturday 30th January from 1pm to 5pm. The event is entirely free and all are welcome to attend.

Title: Art@Governors

When: Saturday, Jan 30 - Saturday, Jan 31 01:00 PM - 05:00 PM
Where: Government House and Governors Square, West Bay Road

Get Gorgeous at Artista

Posted by admin
Keratin Complex

Keratin Complex

Are you sick of the having frizzy hair? The solution isn’t torturing your hair with a flat iron or slathering on heavy products. There is a fabulous treatment available at Artista salon that will give you a long-lasting solution to problem hair: Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola. It’s an amazing treatment that last for months, and gives you “easy care hair” that styles in minutes! There are two versions: the de-frizz version, or the version that also straightens hair. (Don’t worry, this only lasts for a few months-so it’s not forever if you want to go back to curls or waves.) This miracle treatment will give you Jennifer Aniston type hair-just like that-and it will only take you a few minutes a day to style it! I got this treatment recently and can’t get over the time I am saving every day, not to mention the money saved on hair products. I am also sparing my hair the heat treatment of the flat iron. My real hair is wavy and frizzy, but not in a fun way. It just refuses to do much of anything but frizz out in the Caribbean heat. Now it’s smooth, shiny and straighter, but with body. The Keratin treatment is an investment but trust me, it’s worth every penny!  There are a few salons offering the “real thing” in Cayman, and many offering cheaper alternatives. Be sure to stick with this reputable name brand to ensure you don’t damage your precious hair.

Artiista is a full service salon located in the Motorworld Building on Eastern Avenue. Let me tell you, this salon is a fantastic place with a NYC loft type vibe. The motto is “Growing Hands”, which means the staff takes the time to assess, treat and repair with care. The highly skilled and multi-cultural staff offers traditional salon services as well as threading, nail design, facials, make up artistry (amazing I must say)

Owner Chris Morgan opened the salon in 2001 and has taken the island by storm with his fresh approach. He has a large and loyal clientele, and is known for his expert touch with hair. He has created a lush and friendly environment where clients can relax, feel pampered, and feel beautiful. Chris strives to bring in cutting edge products, services and treatments so his clients can look their best.

By the way, I go to the fabulous Miss Monikah. She’s simply phenomenal. She’s a young gal a ton of talent, expertise and energy. She is also straight up and honest and will not let you make a bad hair decision! She’s amazing with color, cut, and make up artistry.

The Brasserie

It’s time to come out of hiding! The “Big Chill” is over! Yes, Cayman has been cold, like much of the globe. The glorious sunny weather has finally returned, the tourists are finally smiling again, and it’s high time we all celebrate with a fabulous meal. What better spot than The Brasserie? This lovely hidden getaway tucked into a busy corporate office park feels like a fine Caribbean private residence, with beautiful heavy furniture, lazy overhead fans, and spectacular gourmet food. The chefs are dedicated to using local seafood and produce when at all possible, and organic products when feasible. They create innovative cuisine at all times. They have a special way with meats, especially pork, and are known for their zesty salads. (Beet Root Carpaccio…need I say more? YUMMY!)

The “Secret Pleasure” series has been a delight for locals and visitors alike. The menus have showcased the Brasserie’s playful yet sophisticated touch with fresh ingredients. There is always a lovely wine selection and a light dessert to top things off. If you do have to return the the office, you won’t feel stuffed, just satisfied.

Gather a colleague or a travel buddy, if you’re vacationing here, and head over to The Brasserie for Monday’s Secret Pleasure. You won’t be disappointed!

January Sale at Off The Peg

Posted by admin
Off The Peg

Off The Peg

Look out, ladies! One of the best sales of the year is happening right now: The January Sale at Off The Peg, Cayman’s premier boutique for women’s clothing, jewelry and accessories. Tucked in between a dry cleaners and a local eatery, it’s easy to overlook Off The Peg. Step inside and you’ll quickly see why OTP is considered “George Town’s hidden treasure.” The sale is going on through Monday, January 18th, 2010. The sale is taking place at the warehouse, and you’ll need to look at the shop window for directions. (Sounds like a treasure hunt to me!)

The 60% off Everything Sale is hot! The sale is always jam-packed due to the 60% discount off all merchandise! OTP offers excellent value year-round, so the additional deep discounts make this sale irresistible. OTP specializes in smart work clothes, flirty dresses, handbags, sweaters, party frocks, tailored linen blouses, funky jewelry, and must-have handbags. I buy loads of work clothes at OTP, since they sell many items that can be washed and tossed in the dryer. No ironing or dry cleaning required! The OTP fashion advisors are experts at helping clients discover their own individual style. Many times I have tried a new look on the advice of an OTP staffer with great results.

Off The Peg does a huge re-stock every single week, and the merchandise turns very quickly. I’ve learned over the years that if you see an cute outfit at OTP, you’d better grab it or it will be gone the next day.

Ladies, come early, and get ready for some serious retail therapy at Off The Peg!
